Ambridge Ceramics goes to the movies!
A few years ago we were asked by Dr Tim Doswell to come up with a design for something that an actor wanted to wear in order to make his character look a bit menacing.
After some consideration and inspection of the models, Lee came up with the design below.
He then waxed, cast and polished it ready for fitting.
We think the end result is brilliant, especially in the pictures taken from the movie.
It's taken a few years to see it up on the big screen but we're very proud to have made something that's being used in the movies!
It's now available for release on DVD so it's something we're definitely going to watch.
It's been called Die Hard in space and had some great reviews if you're an action movie fan, what's not to love about that!?

At Ambridge Ceramics, we are proud of the beautiful restorations that our skilled team of technicians make in the UK.
This is why we signed up for the British Bite Mark campaign with the Dental Laboratories Association and now proudly present the British Bite Mark on our home page
This scheme aims to educate patients on the value of professionally produced, clinically compliant restorations that are made in the UK by technicians registered with the General Dental Council.
The General Dental Council is there to regulate dental professionals and ensure that patient welfare is protected. Unfortunately the laboratories or technicians that work for labs outside the UK do not fall under the control of the General Dental Council and therefore do not have to meet the strict GDC guidelines.
The British Bite Mark allows the surgeon and patient to see that the work has been made in the UK by General Dental Council registered technicians.
The latest press release for the British Bite Mark is below, this will be released in papers across the UK
The British Bite Mark Dental Laboratories Helping over 29000 People Smile for British Summer this June!
It seems like the whole country have been gripped with national pride as we reminisce on the glorious pageantry of the Golden Jubilee celebrations and look forward to the spectacle that will be the London 2012 Olympics.
Naturally when people are enjoying themselves or taking pride in something, there is an automatic urge to smile, this must go some way to explaining why dental laboratories up and down the country have been busy manufacturing custom made dental appliances in May and June.
According to the British Bite Mark team, research has suggested that in June 2012, British Bite Mark registered dental laboratories have contributed or created over 29,000 new smiles! Richard Daniels Chief Executive of the Dental Laboratories Association said ‘dental technology is a hidden gem of British manufacturing with thousands of dental technicians across the country changing people's lives on a daily basis either by creating a beautifully hand crafted dental crown or an equally beautiful denture.
Many people who visit the dentist, simply do not realise that their dental appliance is designed and custom made just for them and that it if it has been made in Britain, it has been manufactured under a strict regulatory framework which includes professional registration for the dental laboratory and the dental technician; unlike dental appliances that are shipped in from overseas from places such as China or India.'
The British Bite Mark is now becoming widely recognised as the logo for patients to look out for when agreeing with their dentist to a prescription that requires a crown, bridge or denture.
British Bite Mark labs are not only in the business of manufacturing natural looking smiles, they also help many married couples smile again with their custom made ant-snoring devices, in June 2012 they manufactured over 1900 anti-snoring devices for patients across the UK.
British Dental Technology is under commercial threat from unregulated cheap importers from China, India and other developing nations. It is impossible to know what materials are included in crowns, bridges and dentures that are made in an unregulated environment yet thousands of dentists use imported appliances rather than appliances made under the British Bite Mark label, when you next need a crown or a denture why not ask your dentist where his dental lab is based!

Milled chrome cobalt copings for Dental Wings!
Finally, we can talk about one of our latest projects!
After investing in the Dental Wings Scanning System we soon became very frustrated at the lack of a UK milling centre that could produce chrome copings for ceramic bonding. So, we decided to actively do something about it.
What we eventually found was an excellent team, who not only produced the best milled units of any company we had sent our test files to (Europe included) they also had the attitude we love.
Nothing is a problem for these guys, if there's an issue they rewrite their own software or even produce new a modified machine to give the results required.
They build their own 6 axis milling capability machines, every single element, which allows complete control over the final outcome. If something doesn't work for the specific item it was designed to make they redesign and rebuild it, and these are not small machines!
To see them in action reminds me of so many of the best laboratories I have visited and the great technicians I've met, true problem solvers, capable of approaching those problems from new angles and having the ability to do whatever it takes to get the perfect result.
Keeping this a secret has been very difficult, especially as it has taken so much of our time and effort, plus the team have been really excited about sharing the results.
Here are some images taken yesterday while we were running last minute tests at their workshop.
The technical team at the milling company are a fantastic group of very sharp problem solvers, who after working out the potential issues are ready to commit to a completely new milling centre, dedicated solely to dental products right here in the UK.
This means that we can now produce CAD/CAM frameworks right here in the UK with the Dental Wings system.
How does all this help you ?
Astra Atlantis:
This means that we can design the framework and have it in production before we have recieved the abutment from Atlantis!
Both abutment and coping or framework can the be received by the lab on the same day. No longer will there be any need to wait for the abutment to come back only to have to scan again and then design a framework, losing valuable time to work on the final case in the laboratory.
To begin with the service will be open to all users of the Dental Wings system who would like chrome cobalt PFM copings and frameworks.
Here are some examples of just how fantastic the milling quality is!
And, YES, these are straight off the machine!
If you would like more information on the service then please email:
info@ambridgeceramics.com or call us on 01765 607347 and ask for Mark or Steve
We will be scanning and milling live at the show!
Not only will this service be launching at the Dentistry Show, we'll also be milling cases while you are there!
If you would like to register your interest in PFM chrome copings produced from the Dental Wings Scanners then simply email us and we'll arrange a meeting at The Dentistry Show.
Or,
If you have single unit case in mind and you'd like to test the quality and fit, then why not bring it with you to the show and leave with coping milled on the day?
We can't wait to share this with you,
See you at The Dentistry show!

After much internet searching and attending many engineering trade shows we found what we hoped would be the perfect milling partner, a partner that could produce what a modern dental laboratory needed.

Astra Atlantis:
As you will no doubt be aware, one of the major advantages of the Atlantis abutment and Dental Wings partnership is the ability to have an Atlantis Core file returned to us while the abutment is being milled.

Just bring your prep to us at stand J45 and we'll scan and mill the coping while you are at the show.
We already know the quality is exceptional, but the best way to convey this is for you to see one produced live to fit on your prep at The Dentistry Show.
If you prefer, you can send us an STL file direct from your Dental Wings scanner, but we will have to create some parameters on your machine first. This is the part of the process that has taken some time to perfect.
We believe that this is a very exciting time for CADCAM in the UK and we're delighted to have helped make this new service a reality for Dental Wings users.
